“What do you mean plausible technology. Of course it's plausible. We just don't have a good use for it yet. An obvious use is for gaming, but it's going to take a while before the public will adopt such a crazy idea, and even longer before good software and hardware catch up to take advantage of omni-directional treadmill technology.

I haven't pirated the movie, but even if I had, I would still be buying the Blu-ray day one. hell, I'm wanting to get that special edition copy that has the little Enterprise ship in the box, or I think it's Best Buy's that has the Starfleet insignia replicas. Either one would be cool. One thing I think they need to consider is: does this eventually cut into sales of the film on DVD and Blu-ray later on? I would argue that with instances of The Dark Knight, which I believe was the most pirated movie last year, the number of acts of piracy of the film could be considered inconsequential, since the movie sold 13.5 million copies on home video the first week it was out, and even set record numbers for a film selling on Blu-ray.Perhaps it's not so much people pirate movies to not have to pay to own them, maybe they just want to watch them on a regular basis while waiting for them to be released on home video? A friend of mine downloaded a copy of the Twilight movie for his daughter to watch in between the movie's release in theaters (which I think they saw multiple times anyway because she loved it so much), and the movie's release on home video.I'm reasonably sure Star Trek will sell immensely well on home video when it's out in a couple of weeks. Also, wasn't there a report last year that showed the top ten highest grossing films of 2008 only accounted for two of the top ten most pirated movies of 2008? I think the two that were on the list were Horton Hears A Who, and The Dark Knight, which were both excellent films that grossed considerably more than they cost to make. The rest of the list included crap like Zohan, which is a movie people want to see because it's bad, but they don't want to pay for it or own it. I sincerely doubt it would have made a difference in the film's (Zohan's) gross had a pirated copy not been available.Even then, Zohan STILL made over double what it cost to make.
